Kukui Camp Ranch, located at 17-4174 Kukui Camp Road, is a private property that serves as the logistical home base for Ho‘olako ʻĀina. The ranch and the nonprofit are separate — the ranch simply provides space for storing equipment, organizing supplies, and preparing for our projects.
Why “Kukui Camp”?
The name “Kukui Camp” comes from Hawaiʻi’s plantation era. Many areas in Puna and Mountain View were once home to small worker villages—called “camps”—that supported the island’s sugar operations. Kukui Camp was one of those communities. The area was named for the kukui (candlenut) trees that grew abundantly here, symbolizing light, knowledge, and protection in Hawaiian culture. Today, Kukui Camp Ranch continues that heritage by bringing new life, purpose, and community back to this land.
Our Role
Kukui Camp Ranch is not a program site. All youth, cultural, and community programs are done by Ho‘olako ʻĀina. The ranch simply provides the stable home base that helps the nonprofit operate and grow.
